29: The End of the Beginning

In the past, I have at least made two attempts to create a list of all the hobbies and things that interest me. Fear not, I am not going to rehash any of them right now, but I have to reach back to where I began with this blog.

If you have been reading my posts from the start, I hope I have conveyed the message that the mind is the most powerful part of a human being; it guides everything we do and decisively shapes how we view the world around us. The other message I had was not to fear or avoid the inner workings of your mind; know yourself in a way that will allow you to prosper.

I named this blog Ex Tenebris for a reason. Translated into English, it means From Darkness. I have provided explanations in the past as to why I chose this name, but the one example that is at the core of it all is that absolute darkness is the origin story for everything anyone will ever know. Regardless of how great or terrible an idea may be, it begins in the mind (darkness) until it is shared (presented to the light).

I have brought to light aspects of my life, thoughts, memories, and opinions that are all part of who I am. Ex Tenebris is and will always be the nonlinear autobiography of my soul. This story is nowhere near complete, and like one of those stories that have missing time where things happen between chapters, Ex Tenebris is going to do the same.

The Roman poet Ovid said, “Tempus edax rerum.” (“Time is the devourer of all things”), and as dismal as that sounds, I cannot help but laugh and admit how true that statement is. The way I see it, I have a plethora of works in progress, some of which are close to completion, and they need time devoted to them.

While I am not perfect in any way, I am self-aware enough to know that if I never set deadlines for these stories, they will never truly get finished. I cannot add 8 more hours to each day, so instead, Ex Tenebris will be on hiatus after December 25th, 2025.

If you do not plan to read my final post for now, let me leave you with this: The direction our lives take has more to do with what we do when no one is watching, and for me, that is when I am the most productive. There will be a next time, I am Nolan… Ex Tenebris.
